POLE & AERIAL HOOP FAQs

Thinking about trying pole fitness or aerial hoop in Bournemouth?

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to progress your skills, here are some of the questions we get asked most at Pole Active.

What should I expect in my first beginner pole fitness class?

Your first pole class at Pole Active is designed to be welcoming, fun and completely beginner-friendly. You don’t need any previous pole, dance or fitness experience. Classes usually begin with a warm-up before learning beginner-friendly spins, poses and movements around the pole. Your instructor will guide you through everything step by step, with options to suit your individual ability. You don’t need to be strong or flexible before you start – that’s what the classes are for!

Do I need to be strong or flexible to start pole fitness?

Not at all. One of the biggest misconceptions about pole is that you need to get stronger or more flexible before you begin. Pole fitness helps you gradually develop strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness as you learn. Our beginner classes in Bournemouth are suitable for people starting from scratch. What are the benefits of pole fitness training?

Pole fitness is a full-body form of exercise that can help develop strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. You’ll work muscles throughout your upper body, core and lower body while learning new skills and movements. Many of our students also enjoy the sense of achievement that comes from progressing from something that once felt impossible to something they can confidently perform. At Pole Active, our aim is for every student to leave believing they’re more capable than when they walked in.

Is pole fitness suitable for different ages?

Adults of a wide range of ages can enjoy pole fitness. You don’t need to have a dance, gymnastics or fitness background to get started. At Pole Active, classes are organised primarily by experience and ability, from complete beginners through to improvers and intermediate students. If you’re unsure which class is right for you, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Can complete beginners try aerial hoop?

Absolutely. You don’t need previous aerial, gymnastics or dance experience to start aerial hoop.

Our beginner-friendly aerial hoop classes in Bournemouth allow you to learn the fundamentals gradually, including mounts, poses, transitions and combinations.

You’ll build strength and confidence as you progress.

Can I join group aerial hoop classes in Bournemouth?

Yes. Pole Active offers group aerial hoop classes at our studio in Bournemouth, Dorset, with options for different experience levels.

Complete beginners are welcome, and we also offer classes for students who want to continue developing their aerial hoop skills. You can check our current timetable and availability online and choose the class most suitable for your level.

What equipment is used in an aerial hoop class?

Aerial hoop, sometimes called lyra, uses a circular metal apparatus suspended from an overhead rigging point. During classes you’ll learn movements, poses and transitions using the hoop, with appropriate safety equipment such as crash mats used during training. You don’t need to provide your own aerial equipment – everything you need for your class is available at the studio.

Does aerial hoop improve flexibility?

Aerial hoop can help develop both strength and flexibility over time. Many aerial movements involve extending through the shoulders, back, hips and legs while maintaining control and stability. As you progress, you’ll gradually work on the mobility, strength and flexibility needed for different aerial positions. You don’t need to already be flexible to start.

Are there affordable aerial hoop classes in Bournemouth and Dorset?

Does Pole Active offer private aerial hoop lessons?
