POLE FAQs

What should I expect in my first beginner pole class?

A warm welcome, a proper warm-up and lots of learning. We’ll start with beginner-friendly spins, poses and movements and guide you through everything step by step. Never done pole before? Perfect. You don’t need to be strong, flexible or have any dance experience, that’s what classes are for.

Do I need to be strong or flexible to start pole?

Absolutely not.

“I need to get stronger first” is probably one of the things we hear the most. You come to pole to GET stronger and more flexible, you definitely don’t need to arrive that way.

What are the benefits of pole fitness?

Where do we start? Pole is an amazing full-body workout. You’ll build strength, flexibility, coordination and confidence without it feeling like a traditional workout. And there is honestly nothing quite like finally getting a move you’ve been working on. Our motto at Pole Active is “That counts.” Every little bit of progress counts, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Am I too old to start pole?

No!

People start pole at all different ages and with completely different fitness backgrounds. You don’t need to have done gymnastics when you were five, be able to do the splits or already be super fit. If you’re unsure which class would suit you, just ask us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

AERIAL HOOP FAQs

Can beginners join group aerial hoop classes?

Yes! Complete beginners are absolutely welcome. You don’t need any previous aerial, gymnastics or dance experience. We’ll teach you everything from the beginning and you’ll build your strength and confidence as you go. We run aerial hoop classes from our Bournemouth studio for different experience levels.

What actually happens in an aerial hoop class?

You’ll start with a warm-up and then learn different mounts, poses, transitions and combinations on the hoop. Don’t worry, nobody is expecting you to walk in on day one and casually hang upside down like you’ve been doing it your whole life. Everything is taught step by step and you’ll progress at your own pace.

What equipment is used for aerial hoop?

The hoop itself, also known as a lyra, is a circular metal apparatus suspended from above. We also use crash mats during training and all the equipment you need is provided at Pole Active.

You just need to bring yourself.

How does aerial hoop improve flexibility?

Aerial hoop naturally gets you moving your body through lots of different positions, helping you work on mobility, flexibility and strength at the same time. And just like pole, you don’t need to already be flexible. It’s something you’ll develop as you train.

How much are aerial hoop classes?

Our group pole and aerial hoop classes are £15 PAYG or £55 for a 4-week block.

So if you’re not ready to commit to a full block, you can always book a PAYG class first and give it a go.
